Shikatani Lacroix Wins ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Award

Branding and design agency Shikatani Lacroix won a Silver Retail Store Design award at the ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards for its work with M&M Food Market. The ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards Program honors the industry’s brightest and best, acknowledging outstanding achievements in the marketing, design and development of retail properties and retail store designs.

“Thank you to the ICSC for this recognition. We would also like to thank M&M Food Market for the opportunity to work on this outstanding rebrand and congratulate them on the great success of their new retail concept,” said Jean-Pierre Lacroix, President of Shikatani Lacroix.

To improve the shopping experience at M&M Food Market, we created a retail environment that moved away from the employee-centered, order-taking model to a new self-education method of retailing for customers, supported by expert meal advisors in-store.

The counters were removed so customers no longer have to wait in line to be served and can walk freely around the retail space. The addition of shopping carts complements this new self-serve option. The flow of the store was changed to organize the food categories in the natural order you would build a meal – from appetizer through to dessert. And visually appealing merchandising displays were added at the front of the store, offering kitchen accessories, culinary supplies and other gift ideas like sauces, spices and preserves for purchase.

The new M&M Food Market retail concept provides an effective, convenient, hands-on shopping experience that meets the lifestyle needs of its customers and successfully supports its brand promise “Helping You Make Real Food for Real Life.”

The new store design has received extremely positive customer feedback and has now been recognized by the ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards.

“It’s an honor to have received such recognition for this project, which is a best-in-class example of creating an immersive, at-purchase retail experience for customers,” said Richard Dirstein, EVP Design and Innovation at Shikatani Lacroix.
