The Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) represents all of the Canadian embassies across the globe. DFAIT identified a need to improve its wayfinding and building identification program. Shikatani Lacroix was retained to develop new design standards that would work in all of its markets. SL developed a program that consisted of a rigid signing architecture for content, hierarchy of communication and iconography. And it allowed for the use of different materials best suited for the architectural personality of each facility. SL developed a standards manual, prototypes and physical examples to clearly identify the appropriate use and location for each sign.
