Jays Care Community Clubhouse
Since 1992, Jays Care Foundation has been empowering children and youth in need; inspiring them to make positive choices and helping them realize their dreams by providing access to programs that support physical activity, education and life-skill development.
Shikatani Lacroix was commissioned to design the Jays Care Community Clubhouse by converting two under-used hospitality suites at the Rogers Centre into a home for the organization to host children and families of the various charities that Jays Care and the players’ support.
The pro-bono project involved a complete interior redesign: features include large banquettes to provide flexible seating, a television screen to play Wii Baseball, and a baseball bat-lined counter for food service. Colourful info graphics offer information on the stadium, the field and the players, such as their favourite breakfasts, pizzas and games they played as children – a fun and enticing way to relate to the kids. Showcased in glass cabinets are player-donated memorabilia beside framed photos of kids and the players.
Due to the success of the Jays Care Community Clubhouse, SL has subsequently received seven new projects for various youth organizations in Toronto such as the Boys & Girls clubs and Camp Oochigeas. The seven spaces will utilize elements from the Clubhouse design, adapted or altered depending on each organization’s use of space or mandate.
