OCSA D.O. Safety toolkit

Several governing bodies in Ontario began discussing their intention to introduce legislation that would mandate prepay at retail gasoline locations 24 hours a day. The Ontario Convenience Stores Association (OCSA), which represents approximately 8700 convenience stores in Ontario, was concerned with this proposed legislation, as there are safety, operational and financial implications to 24-hour prepay.

The OCSA approached Shikatani Lacroix to develop a toolkit with a goal to educate retailers and governing bodies on:
a) existing processes and tools that mitigate the risk of drive offs while guarding the safety of employees and consumers
b) the detrimental impact 24/7 prepay would have on the retail gasoline and convenience channel

Working with copywriter Steven Peterson, SL created the D.O. (Drive off) Safety kit, which provides tactics and tools to help retailers reduce the occurrence of fuel theft. The Velcro-fastened cardstock portfolio also contains leaflets with information on current practices and policies surrounding drive offs, as well as recommended improvements. Included in the kit are bright yellow decals for the pumps warning customers that theft of fuel is a crime.
