We are looking for an experienced senior retail designer based on the following:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
General
- Take ownership of and run client projects (new and roll-out) as assigned by the Director and lead a team of designers assisting with the project
- Assist with design projects, such as design adaptations and design roll-outs
- Act as a senior resource for studio giving input on details/creative
- Ongoing development of standards (with/through Template Manager) and project/company details to ensure all projects follow company standards
- Work with the Account Executives to accurately estimate new work
- Must be highly organized and able to work efficiently on multiple projects.
- Attend and participate in client presentations, brainstormings & supplier meetings as required.
- Mentor and assist intermediate and junior designers on their projects.
- Take part in briefing and progress meetings (internal & external).
- Willing to put in every effort for the success of the company.
- Submit timesheets at the end of every week.
- Review colleague’s drawings for accuracy and code compliance.
- Ensure all projects are carried out as per the brief and project timelines are met as per the budgeted hours and deadlines.
- Ensure working drawings and millwork/details are drawn accurately with attention to full specifications and appropriateness to design solution and clients needs/scope of work.
- Ensure all information in the working drawings is correct, including dimensions, specifications, supplier & manufacturers’ information, handicap accessibility regulations and code requirements and that budgetary needs and creative objectives are achieved for each and every project.
- Review all drawings (BL/FWD/design updates) for accuracy and code compliance before they are released to the client or suppliers
- Ensure that all drawings (BL/FWD/design updates) have been reviewed by a second person (approved by the Department Manager or Department Director) prior to releasing
Roll Out drawings
- Review all drawings created for roll outs as part of the Checking team (Lead Designer, Template Designer)
- Meet with the Account Executive/team on a weekly basis to review the status of all work and ensure drawings are being scheduled for checking.
- Contribute to the “Drawing Review” for each job evaluating the designers’ job performance and ensuring that high standards are achieved and maintained.
- To create sets of roll outs drawings when required by demand.
Additional (while Dept Manager(works under Director) is on Mat leave)
- Assist the department Director with the day to day operation of the department.
- Daily/weekly review of jobs in the studio to ensure that they are being done in a timely fashion and according to standards.
- Look after scheduling ad department needs when Environmental Director is out of office.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Experience in the overall design process and solid understanding of the interior design process.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational talents and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in software applications such as, AutoCad, Microsoft Word, Microsft Excel and Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity and basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Sketch Up.
- Ability to mentor other team members in achieving high levels of quality, performance and attitude.
- Desire to grow and improve your skills for yourself personally and for the company (learning new soft ware, attending conferences and seminars and trade shows).
- Ability to represent the company at client presentations.
- NCIDQ certified preferred.
- Bill 124 certification in small and large building an asset
- Minimum 7 years industry experience.
